Be My Valentine: Top 5 Reasons I Heart Integral

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Today I ask Integral theory to be my very special valentine. This love affair has been brewing for over a decade now and it’s time to come out of the Big Heart closet. Thank you all for bearing witness to this exceptional developmental occasion.

So, what are my top five reasons for loving integral theory? Check them out below:

1. A Way Out…

Integral theory offered me a way out of some crazy state confusion. Back in the “integral dark ages” all I had was Wilber’s books to soothe my aching body-mind. Through the written word, pointing out instructions, and a map of the terrain I now found myself lost in, K-Dubs literally walked me out of the fog of spiritual flatland. He took me for a hefty trek up the spiritual mountain side, about 50,000 ft, and showed me a view not previously available. For me it was No Boundary > Theory of Everything > Sex Ecology Spirituality > Integral Psychology that made me fall head-over-heels for Integral.

2. Anyone Can Learn Integral Theory

Not only did Integral theory offer me a way out of the spiritual smog, but you can actually learn it. Anyone can learn integral theory just like anyone can learn math. By learning the Integral map, you are not merely learning a set of theoretical concepts, but rather aspects available in your very own awareness right now. Imagine if they taught that in high school?

3. After You Learn Integral, You Can Apply It

Once you learn integral theory, you can apply it to your life. By applying the Integral approach to your daily spiritual practice for example, you can push the needle of your own growth and development to higher, wider, and deeper ways of being and serving in the world. Now that’s H-O-T!

4. Integral is Sexy

One of my favorite aspects of the Integral approach is that aesthetics come back online. Through the Big Three (Goodness, Truth, Beauty) we’re given permission to upgrade our spiritual sensibilities to the 21st century. Beauty is in people! And I’m down with Beauty 100%.

5. Integral is a Lifestyle

Through its scalable and modular approach, Integral offers a set of technologies and practices that, when engaged, offer a richer human experience – Deeper, wider, more expansive, more inclusive, leaving nothing out. And this lifestyle comes with a community of like-minded hearts and souls. The Miracle of We. It’s here that I find freedom in my human fullness.

Feel like sharing? I would love to hear the top five reasons you heart Integral too.

5 Reasons why I love Integral Theory:
1.) Being neurotic, is not as close to wholeness as one will ever get.2.) Although the cognitive line of development may be the high water mark, it is not the only criterion that matters (despite academia suggesting otherwise.)3.) Spirituality/Religion is not limited nor defined solely by 1st Tier values.
4.) Holding multiple (and at times disperate) perspectives at the same time is not hypocrisy but  complexity.
5.) Development is not an automated process, dependent on a persons age, that progresses cleanly from one stage to the next from birth until death (being 50 doesn’t mean you are more or less developed than the 20 year-old in the next room, it just means you’re older.)
