
Since we first launched That’s So Boomer, Awww! devoted entirely to our boomer pals, we’ve gone over the top ten reasons you may be computer illiterate as well as double-clicked into how to search your email and how to download a file from the internet.
Now we’re taking the next step in our computer literacy journey and will elucidate how to send an attachment in an email. As this varies from email client to email client, we’re going to offer step-by-step instruction for use with Gmail, Apple mail, and Entourage. After you read and implement these simple instructions, you’ll be sending attachments in emails like an iGenner in no time!
Gmail
1. To send an attachment in an email, first click the button that reads “compose email” located on the left hand side of the screen, just above your Inbox folder. This will open a new email for you to create.
2. Underneath the Subject line is a link that reads “Attach a file”. Click this link.
3. A document window will pop-up. Here, select the file you wish to attachment to the email. You can look through your folders via the drop-down menu at the top of the document box. You can also search for the document to attach by entering the file name in the search box in the top right corner of the document box.
4. After you locate the document, highlight the document file and click the “Select” button located on the bottom right of the document box.
5. The document will automatically be added to your email as an attachment. You are now ready to send an attachment in an email using Gmail.
Apple mail
1. To send an attachment in Apple mail, first create a new email by clicking “new message” in the top bar of the apple mail email box.
2. A New Message window box will appear. In the top bar you will see options to send, chat, save as draft, etc. Click on the “Attach” button. This button is marked by a paper clip icon.
3. After you click “attach”, a document file box will open. You can look through your folders via the drop down menu at the top of the document box. You can also search for the document to attach by entering the file name in the search box in the top right corner of the document box.
4. Highlight the file you want to attach to your email and click “Choose File”, located at the bottom left of the document window.
5. The document will automatically be added to your email as an attachment. You are now ready to send an attachment in an email using Apple Mail.
Entourage
1. To send an attachment in Entourage first create a new email by clicking “new” in the top bar of the Entourage mail email box.
2. A New Message window box will appear. In the top bar you will see options to send, chat, link, etc. Click on the button marked by a paper clip icon.
3. After you click the button, a document file box will open. You can look through your folders via the drop down menu at the top of the document box. You can also search for the document to attach by entering the file name in the search box in the top right corner of the document box.
4. Highlight the file you want to attach to your email and click “Choose”, located at the bottom right of the document window.
5. The document will automatically be added to your email as an attachment. You are now ready to send an attachment in an email using Entourage Mail.
